As California’s Great America approaches its eventual closure in November of 2027 following the sale of the land by Cedar Fair, the park is beginning to take on a new sense of nostalgia for visitors. While no final operating date has been officially confirmed, the park’s days are numbered, making now a meaningful time to experience the rides that have defined generations of Northern Californian thrill-seekers. Record-breaking and longtime fan favorite coasters such as RailBlazer, Gold Striker, Grizzly, Flight Deck, and Patriot represent the heart of the park’s legacy.
RailBlazer is one of the park’s newest and most intense attractions. This single-rail roller coaster delivers a unique “ride-on-a-knife-edge” feeling with tight twists, steep drops, and fast directional changes. Its compact design makes every second packed with action, and many visitors rank it as the most thrilling ride in the park.
Gold Striker, a classic and iconic wooden roller coaster, is one of the park’s signature attractions. Known for its speed, airtime hills and intense turns, it delivers a relentless, old-school coaster experience. It’s often praised as one of the best wooden coasters in the country and remains a fan favorite.
Grizzly is another one of the park’s infamous roller coasters, also made of wood just like the Gold Striker. The coaster has another attraction that wraps around it, called Barney Oldfield’s Redwood Rally. The Grizzly is considered one of the longest rides at the amusement park.
Flight Deck is another incredible ride that takes riders on barrel rolls, loops, and crazy twists while going 50 mph. The ride was originally called Top Gun, but was later renamed to Flight Deck after being purchased by Cedar’s fair in 2008, when Paramount had the license to the park. On this ride you even get a picturesque view of the San Francisco 49ers’ stadium, Levi’s Stadium
Patriot is one of the youngest roller coasters at California’s Great America. The coaster is a bright shining blue and has a unique floorless design which allows riders’ feet to dangle just inches above the track, causing for a thrilling open air experience.
Overall these coasters are the most fun and exciting to ride on in California’s Great America.
