Clogged was a wildly entertaining production by Sequoia High School that takes one on an emotional rollercoaster, blending comedy with heart. The story takes place in a tiny New York apartment on New Year’s Eve, where a plumbing disaster creates arguments and uncovers secrets about the family.
The play is pretty funny and does a fantastic job of showing chaos. It also shows meaningful themes like forgiveness, trust, showing what it really means to be a family.
The acting really made the show. Everyone projected amazingly, making it easy to follow the story. The cast nailed the emotional shifts, from the funny moments to the not so funny ones. Winter Litch was fantastic as Rachel, the hostess of the part. She perfectly balanced frustration, sadness, and humor. Logan Gerhardt brought a ton of energy and comic relief to his role as Micheal, while Celeste Carpinelli added some great tension and conflict to the family dynamic as Sarah. Sierra Hassett also stood out as Chelsea during those intense bathroom scenes, and Emily Judge did a wonderful job anchoring the emotional core of the Patrick storyline. But overall, the cast did amazing.
The highlight of the show was hands down the ridiculous, ongoing conflict over who clogged the toilet. The crowd was cracking up at the delivery guy clogging it and rushing out the door, the goofy “get along” song used to break up the one of the fights, and the family fighting over the toilet plunger. Plus, Sydney Martin’s hilarious performance as The Toilet was super creative and kept everyone laughing the whole time.
Luke Schumaker completely stole the show as Elizabeth. He nailed Rachel’s mom perfectly—he was hilarious, dramatic, and so convincing. His timing and facial expressions were spot on, making every scene he was in so much fun to watch. Whether he was accusing everyone of lying or freaking out over the clogged toilet, he totally had the whole room laughing.
The technical side of the show really blew the audience away. It was incredibly detailed, totally nailing that cramped, lively apartment vibe for the New Year’s party.
The costumes fit the characters perfectly, and the dance and music numbers brought so much energy to the stage as well as to the audience. Making the audience clap along to all the songs.
Sequoia High School’s Clogged was a total blast. The students absolutely nailed the performances, keeping the audience laughing with sharp comedy while still landing the more emotional beats. It was a super entertaining show that balanced the fun with a really great message about trust, communication, and forgiveness.
