After almost exactly six years of closure, Redwood City’s Yumi Yogurt has reopened. Newly located at 1019 El Camino Real, in Sequoia Station, Yumi Yogurt is a vibrant frozen yogurt and ice cream shop known for its rotating menu of flavors and wide selection of ice cream.
Yumi Yogurt first opened in 1985 at 947 on El Camino Real, right across from Sequoia. However, it closed in 2019 due to a lease expiration with no guarantee of return. But on September 28, 2025, this beloved local business reopened less than half a mile from its original location.
Yumi Yogurt has a simple, yet eye-catching interior, with bright blue and pink walls and red tables and chairs to enjoy your frozen treat. Two large screens above the counter display prices and the day’s flavors, which rotate. At any given time, there are 8 frozen yogurt flavors (chocolate, vanilla, and 6 others), and 24 ice cream flavors, which include classic flavors like mint chip and cookie dough, and some more unique options, such as blueberry cheesecake and café caramelo.
Something that stands out about Yumi Yogurt is their attention to detail when preparing the frozen yogurt. If you choose to include toppings, they first layer some on the bottom of the cup, making sure to include enough to get your money’s worth. The yogurt itself is dispensed in a cartoon-esque swirl, before more toppings are packed onto the side. However, it is on the pricey side, with a small yogurt costing $7.50, a medium costing $8.50, and a large costing $9.75. Any amount of toppings will add an additional $2.50 to your order.
“I really liked how many toppings you could get and the presentation was nice,” said freshman Phoebe Comfort.
Overall, Yumi Yogurt is a cute little ice cream shop very close to Sequoia. Though the menu can be a bit expensive, they also offer a wide enough selection to have something for everyone.
